Loving Layers

I realise that sometimes the images I chose take my point to the extreme but this isn't an instruction manual just my thoughts.  Last week was glorious, there was enough Vitamin D floating around to ensure the health and improvement of mood for everyone (I was even seen to crack out some shorts).  This week, it being school holidays - normal service has resumed.  The weather in March is changeable to say the least, the epitome of that old phrase, "Don't like the weather- wait 5 minutes."  So dressing for this capricious season can be a challenge.  The way I see it, you have 2 choices carry the biggest handbag you have, containing a full kit of just in case items or layers.
Here's the qualifying statement by layers I am not referring to thick bulky items that help you achieve the look of half way between the Michelin Man and a small child dressed for the park by an over protective Grandma, remember that feeling of not quite being able to get your arms to hang straight down and trying to get your chin out of your jacket so you could turn your head?  I mean a multi-textural, tonal ensemble formed from natural fabrics which will allow you to look interesting and effortless, a look achieved with a little more effort and a lot more reward.
By playing with colour and lengths, you create a more detailed look which also offers you the advantage of being warmer, not to mention thin layers fold up really small, any creasing through this will fall out as you start to wear the garment, so your handbag can be smaller and you can easily be cooler, when and if necessary.  This is also the easiest way to create multi functional outfits, so that you aren't constantly having to build into your schedule time to change your clothes, which is irritating, exhausting and a pointless waste of time.  Many people feel that layers tend to look more casual and it is not possible to create a formal business look this way - I say those people are wrong.  Yes if you are wearing 3 layers of jersey, it is casual but a silk shirt under a whisper thin cashmere jumper or cardigan with a tailored jacket over the top is a classic 50's chic look.
